We left home base in Portland around 1pm. Our destination was
Hood River for
Double Mountain’s 5th Anniversary Party. The weather was actually shaping up nice. It was a little overcast at first, but the further we traveled east in the Columbia Gorge the more the sun was determined to reign the sky. By the time we arrived at the City Center exit for Hood River the sky was pretty much cloudless. It was going to be a great day.
In Hood River, we met up with our friend’s and Eyeluvbeer Senior Travel Correspondents, Mark and Brenda. We planned an overnight stay at the
Hood River Hotel, which proved to be a wise choice as it turned out to be a long day of walking, standing and drinking delicious beer. Mark and I ended up heading directly over to Double Mountain to check out the scene and have a pint. The ladies opted to check out a few shops, but it wasn't long before they showed up to join us under the tent.
During the afternoon Double Mountain was busy, but not packed. It was fairly easy to grab a beer in the taproom, garage or tent. Every beer on the program was being represented at one of the (3) locations. Unfortunately, Double Mountain’s famed Killer Green was in limited supply and the keg was kicked by the time we got there. On the upside, their Killer Red was next in line and 16 ounces went into my glass and into Marks. I loved that full pints were offered at the celebration. I was assuming there would be taster mugs and tokens, which seems to be the norm at a majority of festivals. The only downside I found to drinking full pints, was that I didn’t get to try as many beers as I’d planned on. I should have opted for the available smaller cup size. Another BBD (Bad Beer Drinker) move.

Double Mountain did an excellent job at choosing the music line-up. We were totally impressed with bands we saw. One that we really enjoyed was
The Resolectrics. The Resolectrics are a (4) piece consisting of guitar, bass, keyboard and drums. They reminded me at times of Wilco and the Stones, but they definitely have their own thing going. I looked them up on the web and they’re playing next Saturday, March 24th at
Laurelthirst. Go check’em out.

We took a break from Double Mountain and went across the street to
The Pint Shack for a snack. At the Pint Shack we shared some tasty, crispy cooked nachos, a few rounds of water and of course a beer. The Pint Shack had a nice tap list and the staff was pleasant. I really enjoyed the Humboldt Hemp Brown I ordered. It was toasty and malty with a slight earthy taste.

At the Pint Shack we realized we better eat dinner soon. The nachos were great, but our bellies craved additional sustenance. Dinner was had at
Brian’s Poorhouse; a place worth checking out if you’re in Hood River. Around 7:30 we were back under the tent at Double Mountain. We were excited for 8:30 to arrive. That’s when
The Meat Puppets were scheduled to deliver the final performance of the day. At 8:45 they indeed delivered. The tent was rockin’ to the great riffs the band is known for. I must thank Double Mountain for providing this awesome free show. Actually Double Mountain, thank you for making your entire event free and for creating some of the tastiest craft beer out their! Once again, Happy Anniversary!
