Last night we headed to
Bridgetown Beerhouse for the unleashing of
Humble Brewing’s Gonzilla IIPA. This would be the second time that this beast has been seen in North Portland. It originally debuted at
Plew’s Brews back in March, and rumor has it that a few days prior the real Godzilla was seen around 3am towering over the
St. Johns Bridge. Someone even happened to capture several photos, but unfortunately they were immediately seized by local CIA agents. Did this unconfirmed event really occur? We’re not entirely sure, but Humble Brewing decided it would make an awesome t-shirt and produced a graphic of the alleged sighting.

Awesome graphic for an awesome beer!

Gonzilla’s name, which does bring to mind the famed Godzilla, was actually named after one of Humble’s old friends, Erik Gonzales. Erik was the 60th person to buy one of Humble’s inaugural t-shirts, which earned him the right to have a beer named after him. He also provided some style guidance to Humble owners, Chad and Scott.
So, what happened at Bridgetown? We drank Gonzilla IIPA, duh! That’s until the (2) kegs on hand were depleted, which happened shortly after 9pm. I didn’t think Humble’s beer would go so fast, but when we arrived at Bridgetown it was packed. The Gonzilla event was part of
PDX Beer Week, which really doesn’t mean much to me, because Beer Week is every week for me (insert smiley face here). I’ll leave you with a few brief words about Gonzilla IIPA, which I’ll rip-off from
Mr. Food. “OOH IT’S SO GOOD”!
